10.20.08 MUSICAL PROJECTS UPDATE

Hi everyone, I just wanted to share with you the musical projects I'm working on (this is really so that I have a list of what I'm doing... LOL).

1. Doing a progressive CD with Swedish drummer Zoltan Csörsz for release in early to mid 2009. Zoltan will drum and I will perform all keys, bass and vocals. Still debating whether or not to add guitars. The project will be mixed and produced by Rich Mouser in Los Angeles (Transatlantic, Neal Morse, Spocks Beard, Dream Theater and many others). Vocals and background vocals will be recorded at Rich’s studio, "The Mouse House". CD is still untitled.

2. Continually working on "DAVID" the opera. Started working on sketches for the 2nd act as I orchestrate through the 1st act. If I stop revising everything in the 1st act... it would be done. 3rd act still to be written. Concepts in my head only at this point.

3. Guitarist Tim Dube of the band Vacancy and I are in the finishing stages of releasing our first collaborative effort entitled, "You’re So Gone", an alternative rock ballad about a drug addict and his state of mind. It should be available for purchase at itunes and a number of other internet music download sites in November.

4. Working on "WARS OF THE ROSES" CD for January 20th release date. This project will be prog/orchestral in nature. Some really nice Medieval interludes weaving through the tunes. I am very excited about this solo release.

5. Navigator drummer, Rob Thurman and I are planning on working on a project . Rob will be laying the drum tracks down and I on keys. The other musicians will be posted as the project begins.

6. Another ambient CD is in the works entitled "Fragments and Incomplete Thoughts". The music is recorded and mixing will begin in December. A December release date is scheduled.

10.5.08 ZOLTAN - MARCANGELO PROJECT UNDERWAY

The project has begun... currently, drummer Zoltan Csörsz has received one of the tunes for the project and he is recording the drum tracks. I am very excited and pleased to be working with "my little brother" (as he calls himself) who will lay down some killer foundational tracks to support these new tunes! The first tune Zoltan is recording is entitled, "Phantom Ships".

Jon is resting and I am continuing to write for this "Grand" project(s). I have also been creating some video for his project(s) as well. Be patient, cuz I can't wait to post some of the tunes!!!! I'll keep U posted.

9.13.08 GOOD LUCK AND BEST WISHES, PETER!

Pete Williams, my part time "PR/WebWorker/Guy in the trenches", the one kept me visible while I worked and the one who continued to make things happen for me is moving on to greener pastures. I will miss his enthusiam as well as his aggressive spirit of getting things done for me. It's been a great 6 months my friend... thanks!

BEST WISHES AND SPEEDY RECOVERY FOR JON ANDERSON

MARCANGELO RELEASES NEW CD "THE ANTIKYTHERA MECHANISM" ON JUNE 24th, 2008

On June 24th, Marcangelo will release his newest CD entitled, "The Antikythera Mechanism." This will be an instrumental collection of 6 pieces.

"The Antikythera Mechanism" was inspired by a documentary Marcangelo saw on television, he stated. "The CD is a bit dark ambient at times but I also included the usual whispery piece here and there and some percussive supporting ambient pieces. I love this stuff because you can be so expressive, sensitive and emotional."

The CD will be available at this website as well as i-Tunes worldwide, Amazon.com, Rhapsody and a host of other download sites.

MARCANGELO AND JOHN ANDERSON COLLABORATION CONTINUE

Jon and Marcangelo have spoken since his tour has ended. They're continuing were we left off. He will be touring with YES soon and surely this will put a damper on their projects. He has laid down some scratch (Idea) vocals on 2 pieces Marcangelo sent to him and they were of an orchestral nature. "The songs now breathe!! I will be patient, and as Jon would say... "It will be.", states Marcangelo.

He said everyone who called their Congress person about this should feel that they had an effect on the process: "This is a direct result of lobbying pressure, so if anyone thinks their call didn't matter, it did. That's why this is happening." The flyer DiMA distributed to Congress today probably helped a bit too, but overall, it appears Congress intervened due to pressure from web radio listeners.

Funnily enough, Westergren told me this mere hours after a representative of SoundExchange said that the new rates are "etched in stone." Evidently not.

Basically, this news qualifies as a reprieve, but internet radio won't be truly saved until negotiations result in a workable royalty rate.

Another Update: This story has been confirmed by Kurt Hanson of RAIN.

Westergren had more to say, lending insight into a process that was largely opaque to non-participants. Apparently, the per-channel minimum fees mandated by the Copyright Royalty Board were never taken very seriously by those involved. They've now been taken off the table completely, saving Pandora, Live365, and other multicasters from their most imminent threat. Instead, per-station minimums will be capped at $50,000 per year.

"No one thought those per station fees were remotely rational. It only makes sense that they're being taken off the table."

As for the Copyright Royalty Board? They're entirely cut out of the process, having set the rates and then refused a rehearing. Going forward without the royalties being collected, SoundExchange and webcasters will negotiate a new royalty rate with Congress looking over their shoulder -- "and last but not least, the public looking over Congress's shoulder." Alternatively, Congress now has time to consider the Internet Radio Equality Act, which would set webcaster royalties at 7.5 percent of revenue and allow them to continue operating pretty much as they have been.

Either way, this is a big win for webcasters and their listeners. Again, this is a reprieve, and internet radio can't be considered saved until new rates are set that everyone can live with.

SAVE INTERNET RADIO!

For those of you who are unaware... The future of Internet radio is in immediate danger! Royalty rates for webcasters have been drastically increased by a recent ruling and are due to go into effect on July 15 (retroactive to Jan 1, 2006!). If the increased rates remain unchanged, the majority of webcasters will go bankrupt and silent on this date. Internet radio needs your help!

The Internet Radio Equality Act has recently been introduced in both the House and Senate to save the Internet radio industry. Please call your senators and your representative to ask them to co-sponsor the Internet Radio Equality Act.

CALL YOUR SENATORS AND YOUR REPRESENTATIVES NOW TO ASK THEM TO CO-SPONSOR THE INTERNET RADIO EQUALITY ACT, S. 1353 IN THE SENATE AND H.R. 2060 IN THE HOUSE!

Save internet radio! For more information contact: http://www.savenetradio.org

“DAVID” AN OPERA IN 3 ACTS, HIGHLIGHTING HORRORS OF THE HOLOCAUST

My opera, "DAVID" is in its early compositional stages. I'm working on the First Act. The story, quite simply put is about a young jewish boy, hidden in a nazi concentration camp in 1945. The music is deep and haunting, the mood is dark and bone-chilling. Special thanks to finale! You make the task at hand, so much easier. This project is a bear! I'll keep you all posted.

Continuing on the serious side, I have begun work on an Oboe Concerto. Why you ask? I just don't know! LOL!!

THE LONG AWAITED PRGRESSIVE CD “THE ANOMALY”

My progressive CD entitled "The Anomaly" is written and ready to be mixed. This record has taken me 2 years to write and record. I have changed the release date on this record so many times, it's embarassing. Very "proggy" and a ton of keyboards! Lyrics are interestingly surreal as well as some sections of the music. On this CD, more than ever, you'll hear more orchestral passages placed in the songs to add more emotion and colors.

“AN ABSENCE OF COLOR” CD

Do U like "ambient" stuff? I have an ambient disc coming out at the beginning of March. Atmospheric paradise! Layered pads, droning synths, lush and sparkly, dark and sinister, relaxing and soothing. I love the stuff! I hope you enjoy this one. It's called, "An Absence of Color".

DOUBLE DISC CONCEPT CD, “THORN”

Expect later this year, a double disc of progressive and "synthestral" rock, backing up the lyrics and story to my new concept piece entitled, "THORN".

MARCANGELO RELEASES NEW CDs, "LIFE" and "THE ANTIKYTHERA MECHANISM" ON JUNE 24th, 2008

On June 24th, I will release 2 CDs entitled, "The Antikythera Mechanism" and "LIFE". LIFE will be a sort of collage of styles from rock and progressive to ballad and edge. The album also features a collaborated effort on "You're So Gone" with guitarist and songwriter (From the band VACANCY) Tim Dube. Tim also performs on guitars.

The Antikythera Mechanism was inspired by a something I saw on television. It's dark ambient at times but the usual whispery piece here and there and some percussive supporting ambient pieces.

Jon and I have spoken since his tour has ended. We continue were we left off. He will be touring with YES soon so I am sure this will put a damper on our projects.

MARCANGELO AND JOHN ANDERSON COLLABORATION CONTINUE

Jon and I have spoken since his tour has ended. We continue were we left off. He will be touring with YES soon so I am sure this will put a damper on our projects. He has laid down some scratch (Idea) vocals on 2 pieces I sent to him of an orchestral nature. The songs now breathe!! I will be patient, and as Jon would say... "It will be."

SAVE INTERNET RADIO! (UPDATED July 22, 2007)

At Thursdays's Congressional hearing about the new rates for online radio that would essentially destroy it, SoundExchange, which was scheduled to receive the new royalty payments on Monday morning made a startling statement.

The SoundExchange executive Jon Simson, executive director promised -- in front of Congress -- that SoundExchange will NOT enforce the new royalty rates. Webcasters will stay online, as new rates are hammered out.

I just spoke with Pandora founder Tim Westergren, who expressed relief that Pandora wouldn't have to shut down on Sunday in response to the new rates. He said, "It was getting pretty close. I always had underlying optimism that sanity was going to prevail, but I was beginning to wonder."

By Eliot Van Buskirk (Wired)

-----

Update: Another source -- close to the situation although not inside today's closed-door hearing -- confirmed the following: Pandora was there; "progress was made"; the minimum fees are indeed off the table; and SoundExchange and the webcasters that were part of the Copyright Royalty Board hearings are going to have another chat about the rates.

However, the source said the big question right now is whether webcasters not part of the CRB hearing might still have to pay the rates set by the board, minus the minimum fees. Basically, this news qualifies as a reprieve, but internet radio won't be truly saved until negotiations result in a workable royalty rate.

------
Another Update: This story has been confirmed by Kurt Hanson of RAIN.
